The Paris Agreement

The goal of the Paris Agreement is to prevent the global temperature from rising more than 2 °C by 2100 and to continue efforts to keep the increase to 1.5 °C. As of August 2023, 195 states and the
European Union have signed the Agreement, representing almost all countries in the world.

The United States declared its intention to withdraw from the Agreement in 2017.

Subsequently, a U.S. Climate Alliance (USCA) was formed with 16 members to date who have reaffirmed their independent commitment to the country's obligations under the Paris Agreement. Currently, the USCA represents approximately 40% of the U.S. population and 46% of its 2016 GDP.

The main initial requirement of the Paris Agreement is to communicate the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and report on their progress towards these NDCs every five years.
